California Prop 65
WARNING: This product can expose you to chemicals which are known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. For more information, go to www.p65warnings.ca.gov.

This warning exists to tell you that under California law, this product, because it contains kelp, "may cause cancer or reproductive harm."

While the intention behind this regulation is noble, its application can be overzealous, and unfortunately there are predatory law firms that go after small businesses (like ours) that do not slap this label on their products. The state of California lists kelp as an ingredient that may cause these health implications. Yes, kelp — the nutritious, mineral-packed ocean vegetable that has been a dietary staple in many cultures for centuries.

So why the warning label? Because kelp naturally absorbs trace amounts of metals from its environment. Do not fear, the kelp that is used in our products comes from waters that we know well - some of the cleanest along the globe's vast coasts. Yet, here we are, putting a cancer warning on your kelpy snacks as if they’re radioactive, because of a California law called Prop 65. Spoiler alert: kelp is not radioactive.

In fact, seaweed is widely celebrated for its health benefits, including being rich in iodine, antioxidants, and fiber. If you'd like to read more, check it out here (https://www.p65warnings.ca.gov/).
