The quality and freshness of our spices are superior due to our sources and rapid turnover. Spices are only accepted in their whole form to ensure no adulteration occurs. They are then tested, cleaned, and ground in the US with most grinding occurring right in our facility on a weekly basis to ensure their peak freshness.
Spice and tea blends are made in smaller batches on a very frequent basis to ensure maximum freshness at all times. We are committed to supplying our customers with safe, wholesome, and consistently high-quality products.
Based upon the information available our teas, spices, herbs, garlic, and onion are not bio-engineered in any way and are imported and manufactured to both Canadian and U.S. Food Safety Standards. Additionally, spices unlike conventional mass-market crops are most often naturally grown in remote regions and are mainly produced by small-scale farmers.
Tea, unlike conventional mass-market crops, is most often naturally grown in remote regions and is mainly produced by small-scale farmers.

We source our teas from family farms and tea gardens all over the world including China, Taiwan, Japan, India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, South Africa, and Argentina, and have a personal relationship with some of our farmers and plantation owners and we participate in the Ethical Tea Partnership (ETP).

Most blended and flavored teas are made in-house and are our proprietary recipes using only the finest ingredients and flavors from superior sources.
Most spices are grown in the tropical regions of the world, with some thriving in the cooler or more temperate areas depending on the spice. Most are grown by very rural independent farmers and then brought to market.
Our spices are represented by more than 60 different countries throughout the world and all are tested and require certificates of analysis by independent laboratories as well as strict trace-ability for safety and freshness. We will not use anything that does not meet our very stringent standards. Most spice blends are made in-house and are our proprietary recipes.
The term “spice” is defined in the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations for specific labeling requirements. The term spice means any aromatic vegetable substance in the whole, broken, or ground form, except for those substances which have been traditionally regarded as foods, such as onions, garlic, and celery; whose significant function in food is seasoning rather than nutritional; that is true to name, and from which no portion of any volatile oil or other flavoring principle has been removed.
Spices can include one or more of the following:
Allspice, Anise, Basil, Bay leaves, Caraway seed, Cardamon, Celery seed, Chervil, Cinnamon, Cloves, Coriander, Cumin seed, Dill seed, Fennel seed, Fenugreek, Ginger, Horseradish, Mace, Marjoram, Mustard flour, Nutmeg, Oregano, Paprika, Parsley, Pepper, black; Pepper, white; Pepper, red; Rosemary, Saffron, Sage, Savory, Star anise, Tarragon, Thyme, Turmeric.
Paprika, turmeric, and saffron, or other spices which are also colors are declared as “spice and coloring” unless declared by their common or usual name.
Spices last the longest and retain their volatile oils when kept whole and then ground when needed which is why we grind our spices weekly in-house. Our products should be stored in a dry, dark, cool environment. A cupboard near the stove is not a good idea since moisture from boiling water can find its way into a container not sealed completely, nor should spices, herbs, or teas be stored in the refrigerator or freezer.
- Although spices do not expire in the same way other food items do they will lose their pungency, aroma, and taste as time passes leaving you with little flavor.
- Whole spices will stay fresh for about four years, while ground spices run between three and four years however, for optimum flavor and pungency we recommend 18 to 36 months.
- Teas should be kept in tightly sealed glass jars, tea tins, or our specially designed packages to retain freshness and ensure that they do not pick up odors from neighboring spices or coffee. Assuming they are stored properly one can expect to enjoy continued aroma and flavor from each type of tea based on the suggestions below.
- There are however exceptions and the general rule if it tastes off or lacks aroma it should be disposed of applies to teas just as it does to spices.
Black 2-3 years
Pu-Erh 2-20+ years
Oolong 1-2 years
Green 1-2 years
White 1-2 years
Herbals 2-3 years
It is recommended not to store tea in the refrigerator or freezer as condensation can result, which will harm the taste of the tea as it will absorb odors and other flavors.
